Online Microteaching
What went well during your online microteaching lesson?
The learners
were really engaged during the introduction activity where they had to type
their responses of the differences between picture 1 being a house in a wealthy
community and picture 2 being a home in a poor community. The learners did not
struggle as I showed them how the whiteboard tool on Blackboard works.
What challenges or obstacles did you encounter, and how did you address them?
I feel like my
lesson went very well without any connection problems and was able to navigate
between the slides smoothly. The lesson went as planned, but I noticed that I
would still have time left to teach so after I finished with my Introduction I
just carried on with the teaching and learning phase. Luckily, my whole lesson
was loaded on Blackboard, so I was able to carry on and stopped before teaching
the causes of socio-economic imbalances.
Did your lesson meet the learning objectives you set out to achieve?
As the
microteaching lesson was only used to teach a small slice of my lesson, not all
lesson objectives could have been tested and will only be achieved when the
whole lesson is taught. Although, the first lesson objective was achieved where
learners had to define the meaning of socio-economic imbalances.
Did you choose appropriate ICT tools to teach your online lesson, explain why?
Yes, I feel
like I did. The whiteboard tool on Blackboard aided with learner engagement and
discussions. Learners could express their thinking and I could get an idea of
their prior knowledge before I start with the teaching and learning phase.
Although, I noticed that there was some time left during my micro teaching
lesson, so I could have added an appropriate YouTube video to develop a greater
understanding of the term socio-economic imbalances.
What did you learn from this experience that you can apply to the teaching of this lesson in the classroom?
While, I was
teaching the key terms for this particular lesson, I noticed that I have not
tested if the learners understood the terms. So, in the classroom, I will give
them a worksheet where they should explain each term in their own words to form
an understanding and that they will be able to explain it during their
summative assessment in the future.
How did you incorporate feedback from peers, mentors, or students into your lesson improvement process?
I will take my
peers’ feedback and improve my future lessons by using real life scenarios
again during lessons as they commented that they liked the discussion where
they were able to give their opinions on a certain topic and were also able to
hear other individuals’ opinions. During the part where I taught the rest of
the slides in the teaching and learning phase, I will make it more engaging by
asking learners to give examples of the key words or even ask one of the
learners to read it out loud for us. This will make the lesson even more
engaging.
